Bollywood dance workshops
Saturday, August 19th, Kala Sangam
Sunday, August 20th, Thornbury Centre
The joy of dancing is ingrained in the DNA of many people from the South Asian diaspora, so Bradford South Asian Festival wouldn't be complete without a dance element. These participatory dance sessions ware led by dance teacher Salma Zaman from Salma's Bollywood Dance Academy and was a resounding, hip-shimmying, shoulder-shaking success.
Across two packed, inclusive sessions, Salma guided participants through simple and fun Bollywood dance steps.
Saturday's workshop also acted as a practice session for some of the ladies who were getting their sequins out for the Bollywood retro disco later! But we also welcomed several gentlemen who joined in the fun.
The participants loved these dance classes. One of the Saturday attendees was a lady who was visiting relatives and friends in Bradford from Australia, and she mentioned this was one of the best experiences she had ever had and would love to see similar activities and festivals in her home country! It was a joyful afternoon of dance with a fantastic teacher, offering not just a chance to keep fit but also to thoroughly immersed in the joy of desi dance!
